Welcome to Year
Welcome back .
We will be following 'The way, the truth and the life' scheme of work for religious education. Our topic this term is 'Following Jesus'- designed to develop the children's knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
Pupils will continue to have literacy lessons using the SFA (Success For All) programme. This ensures all will cover a wide range of phonics, reading and writing skills, using a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction texts.

In science we will be learning about the changing seasons- from Winter to Spring and from Spring to Summer. With the recent weather it has been diffcult to know which season we are in ! As the weather hopefully becomes warmer , it will be a good opportunity for the children to really look around them, use all their senses and see for themselves the wonderful changes taking place as Spring emerges.
Our Geography topic this term is called,'What a Wonderful World!' We will be dicscovering and getting to know and name all the vast continents and oceans of the world. With the up-coming Olympic Games in Brazil this will be a great focus for the children to really get to know and appreciate 'their world'.
Art and Design
Spring flowers and the natural world around us will act as an inspiration for the children to design and press print their own Spring flower pattern. We will focus on the designs of William Morris as a starting point to try to understand a little more about what 'pattern' actually means and how we create patterns ourselves.
This will be given out on a Friday in the book bag and should be completed over weekday evenings for about 10 minutes each evening and returned to school the following Thursday in book bags.
On a Friday children will have a spelling test on their homework spelling list. You will get the spelling lists for the following week every Friday.
To help them learn spellings, we suggest you encourage them to:
- Look at the word written down
- Say the word aloud while looking at it
- Cover up the word themselves
- Write the word (without looking at it)
- Check by uncovering the word to see if it matches their version
- If the word is incorrect, repeat the process until they can remember it and give lots of praise for correct spellings
Each child will have two books to read at home each night. Firstly there is the shared book from SFA lessons (usually sent home on Monday)and also a book chosen by themselves (brought home on Fridays) which you should encourage them to read every evening to help improve their fluency and expression. Please re-read the book with your child as many times as possible during the week, ask them questions to help them gain a full understanding of the text and write a short comment in their reading record.
This term P.E will be on a Thursday- with a specialist coach. P.E kit is black pumps or trainers, a white t-shirt and black or blue shorts with white socks. Kit is to be left in school and taken home at half term for a wash.
